Lagos Comic Con to Drive New Fronts in Diversifying Nigeria’s Economy

Exhibiting, Inspiring and Celebrating the finest in the creative industry will drive growth in the sector while engaging youths in meaningful employment.

The Lagos Comic Convention (Con) is an annual event which began in 2012. It serves as a platform for exhibiting the best works in comics, animation, games etc. in this convention, excellence is being celebrated by an award, the Comic Panel Award. Being open to the general public to attend, LCC attracts enthusiasts of this exciting sub of the creative industry to showcase to them progress already recorded and as well expose clear potentials and the promises of the future.
The global comic/animation industry is worth over $300 Billion, interestingly, several billion worth of jobs are annually being
outsourced to countries like India, Malaysia and China. This reality calls for the awakening of Nigeria’s comic/animation industry to be prepared to tap into that global job market, hence, creating numerous employment figures and local wealth creation.
LCC carries a multi-faceted approach in helping Nigeria achieve this goal. There are seminars and forums held in the convention to discuss and educate industry players on global opportunities and how to best harness them. LCC creates a rich networking ground for creative artists to begin to plant the seeds of collaboration to produce much more quality contents. Importantly, LCC tends to attract potential investors to invest in the Nigerian comic industry to as to provide much needed facilities for the creative hands.
This last part is most crucial in the industry as it is now becoming clearer that skill base is less and less the challenge. Nigerian studios such as Spoof Animation has proven just that by pushing the boundary with works like Vantage comic, Area Daddy animation and several animated short films made in recent times. This goes to show that a lot more can be achieved with the right investment.
The theme for this year’s LCC, Creative Skills as a Tool For Economic Diversification tells of the point that must become the bull’s eye at this stage of both the comic/animation industry and Nigeria’s economy.

The event holds on Sept. 17, 2016 at NECA House, Plot A2, Hakeem Balogun Str, Alausa, Ikeja.
